The paleo diet and belly fat: how can you utilize the paleo diet to maximize your weight loss and shed belly fat from your body?

Oh, the dangers of belly fat are so numerous. And we see it everywhere, don’t we? People who aren’t necessarily even “overweight” can have unhealthy amounts of belly fat. This is because, unfortunately, fat lingers in different places depending on your genes, on your body type, and, necessarily, on what you eat.

Belly Fat: The Worst Fat of All?

A recent study created by the European Society of Cardiology Congress states that the fat that expounds on the inside of your body–otherwise known as visceral fat, the stuff that presents the “pouch”–is the worst fat of all. They even found that people with normal “BMIs” or body mass indexes who had a great deal of abdominal mass were unhealthy, thereby swaying us from the belief that BMI can be the total indicator of good health.

People with larger bellies are found to be 2.75 more likely to die of cardiovascular problems than people with proper waist-to-hip ratios, as well. Therefore, the size that promotes the greatest health isn’t always oriented in the number on the scale.

Furthermore, a larger belly boosts your risk for problems like heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and high blood pressure.

Note that the difference in this visceral belly fat lies in the fact that it doesn’t act as a protective layer around the outside of your body. Rather, it actually works as an “organ” on your interior. Therefore, it can create hormones. It can become inflamed. Furthermore, this visceral fat accelerates the production of the bad cholesterol–the LDL kind that increases your risk of serious heart diseases and strokes.

Furthermore, this visceral fat promotes an alteration in the hormone, angiotensin, that actually changes the rate of your blood vessel constriction. As a result, the blood vessels increase your risk of disease.

Men have a greater risk of developing belly fat than women. This is one of the main reasons that men tend to experience greater risk of cardiovascular disease.

Women tend not to have so much belly fat in the years before menopause. However, post-menopause, estrogen levels are lower, and fat can accumulate readily at the gut. This, in turn, promotes risk of heart disease.

Phew. Belly fat is no good.

What’s more: it’s unattractive and uncomfortable.

The Paleo Diet and Belly Fat: How to Slim Down in All the Right Places

Steps to rid yourself of belly fat, reduce your risk of diseases, and help you live a better, more fulfilling life:

1. Fill Up On Fat.

This seems contrary to everything we believe in. However, it’s true that fat is not an enemy. Try to incorporate more olive oils, more omega-3 fatty acids, and more animal fats. Meanwhile, decrease your consumption of sunflower oil and canola oil.

2. Eat Plenty of Vegetables.

As you go on a diet, it is essential to remember that vegetables are key. Try to eat plenty of green vegetables, as they contain phytonutrients that work to decrease bodily inflammation. (Inflammation is the cause of all disease in the human body and brain.)

3. Eat Only 75 to 100 grams of carbohydrates each day.

Carbohydrates boost your body’s fat storage capabilities. When you reduce your carbohydrate intake, you allow your body to initiate something called ketosis, which helps your body utilize fat cells for energy. Thusly, your body will begin to eat the belly fat.

The Paleo Diet and Belly Fat: Final Notes
